In the early 1940s, just after Pearl Harbor, seven-year-old Albert White, Jr., completed this patriotic pose with the American flag as a sailor. In 1953, he would join the Army Aviation Corps and deploy to South Korea.

World War I postcard
World War I brought about the quick building of military installations around the nation to train the fast growing military. This postcard from the family collection of Sgt. Wesley Cope, Camp Travis, Texas depicts a typical scene for young soldiers answering the call to fight in the "war to end all wars."
